How to use this calculator

Enter your annual salary, the hours you work each week, the days you spread those hours across, and the weeks you’re paid for in a year. The hourly, daily and weekly rates update instantly.

Worked example: a £30,000 salary on a 37.5-hour week over 52 weeks is £30,000 ÷ 1,950 hours = £15.38 an hour. Spread over 5 days, that’s a day rate of about £115.38.

The formula

Hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year). The day rate uses your average hours per day (weekly hours ÷ days worked). Figures are gross, before tax and National Insurance.

Why your true hourly rate matters

Comparing a salaried job with hourly-paid or freelance work only makes sense at the hourly level. If you regularly work unpaid overtime, your effective hourly rate drops — try entering your real weekly hours rather than your contracted ones to see the difference.
