How to use this calculator
Choose “Add business days” to find a deadline from a start date and a number of days, or “Count between dates” to measure two dates you already have. Switch the bank-holiday exclusion on to skip England & Wales bank holidays.
Worked example: 10 business days added to a Wednesday, with bank holidays excluded, normally lands on the Wednesday two weeks later — fewer if a bank holiday falls in between.
What counts as a business day?
A business day is any Monday to Friday that isn’t a bank holiday. When a contract says “within 5 business days” or a delivery promises “3–5 working days”, weekends and bank holidays don’t count.
Switch on the bank holiday exclusion to skip the England & Wales bank holidays in the 2025–2027 GOV.UK calendar.
Adding vs counting
Use “Add business days” when you know a start date and a duration — for example, a 10-business-day notice period starting today. Use “Count between dates” when you have two dates and need to know how many business days fall between them, such as checking whether a payment arrived on time.
You can also enter a negative number of days to count backwards from a date — handy for working out when a deadline process needed to start.
